A Study on Health Related Factors of Elementary School Children in Yanbian Area in China



Abstract
This study was carried out to survey health status and factors related to Chosun-jok(Korean residents in China) children and to compare difference of children¢¥s health status between Korea and Chosun-jok children in China, during the period of June 15 to July 12 in 1995. The research areas of this study were Yanbian Area in China and Kojae Area in Korea. The method of survey was parent¢¥s survey method in behalf their children that used the structured questionnaires. Guided by the school teachers, the each children distributed the questionnaires to their parent.. We used stratified-cluster sampling method to determine subjects. 1,083 questionnaires of 1,749 was used to analysis, except 666 uncompleted questionnaires. The results of this study were as follows:
Between two countries, there was little difference on the parent¢¥s cognition on the their child health, the presence of diseases during lately 15 days, the presence of chronic diseases, and inpatient rate during last year. The absent rate of Chosun-Jok children due to the disease is higher than that of Korea children, and the absent rate of rural children due to the disease is higher than that of urban children(p<0.01). In case of Chosun-Jok, the admission rate of rural children is higher 9.6% than that of urban children(p<0.05). Also, in case¢¥¢¥ of utilization patterns, the subjects of two countries mostly utilized at first level facility like as clinic and health center. Particularly, Chosun-Jok visited oriental clinics more than Korean, while Korean visited drug store more than Chosun-Jok(p<0.01). Concerning on satisfaction to the medical service, 50.4% of the subjects in China were satisfied, while only 8.9% in Korean(p<0.01).
